ADA Aqua Soil Substrate Availability

Anyone know of a retailer that sells on the East US coast?
Better yet, anyone near Buffalo, NY?

I really want to get my hands on the substrate but am having a difficult time trying to find some.
I'm going to visit my LFS and ask about the possibility of them stocking the stuff, but I won't hold my breath.

I am familiar with the following internet retailers based out west, but shipping 80 - 100lbs of substrate gets expensive quick.

Following along...

Aqua Forest was the only place I could find that had it in stock. Shipping from California to Virginia for 4 9L bags was horrendous.

Have not put it in the tank yet, but I'm already nervous I may need more.

Hi,

I had to pay shipping to FL for 3 cases so I feel your pain. Unless you can get the LFS to get it for you and pay the shipping cost... and NOT pass it on to you....not much you can do. Unless buying a pallet and combining an order with a fish club or the LFS...

I didn't find any retailers close by me when I went looking. I went AFA iirc...

Take this as an opportunity. Become an ADA product dealer for the East Coast.

The lack of availibility and pricing is why I decided to go with UP aquasoil, GLA sells it, similar to aquasoil, I am told its much harder tho, still a similar made, high nutrient type of soil... I do not have experience with ADA, so I am not able to compare the 2.

I can tell you I am very happy with it although I have barely used it.. and it was only around $400 with shipping to get 10, 9L bags

Very true. Unfortunately they never seem to have it in stock... at least on their website.

I had 14 ADA New Amazonia 9l bags shipped from California to Miami. Each cost me placed in Miami close to 38usd (I got them in the summer 2011 before last increase in price). Then I was lucky enough to get them shipped by sea to Santo Domingo. End cost per 9L bag of ADA New Amazonia? 51usd after customs.

Last time I got 20lbs bags of EcoComplete shipped by air cargo to Santo Domingo cost me around 65usd each in Santo Domingo and I got it at 21usd placed in Miami

In short I paid even more for quasi inert substrate than ADA New Amazonia.

51usd is not a bad price at all for having it shipped to another country. The few LFS that carry ADA AS here in Hawaii sell it for $60/9L bag and we are in the US...
