    C02 tank - used

    Hi all,

As an FYI I purchased a 10 lb aluminum c02 tank with a brand new 'top' including the cga fitting, the valve, and a new perma seal tossed in..

It came filled (duh) and the total price was $85. It is painted RED, but I like it I will clean up and paint black most likely...

I thought this a great bargain.

They will tap and thread my OTHER 10 lb so it will accept permaseals as well. It should be empty soon so they can do that empty and refill.

So, then I will have a 10 lb for the 180 and the 220, plus a 5lb spare that I can plug into either tank when needed.

This was from a business that sells and maintains fire equipment.

    Later!
    Thanks,

    Gerry.

Gerry thats local too huh? That's a great price I might add. I paid for my #5 off of ebay $65 shipped. Then another $10 to fill it up so $75 total for a #5! I would rather drive to Deerfield and get that one. Looks like a future investment! Gerry thanks for all your research and sharing it with us.
    Thanks

    Hi JJ,

Yes, that is local in deerfield. It is about 10-15 southwest of my place...A couple of notes...

I agree totally that the price was worth it. I never hesitated over the phone and was like 'put one aside, I'll be down by end of day' I think this is a great way to purchase a tank or a spare if you can. I think the 5lb is more than half that price so you are better off getting a 10#. He wants to sell me a 20# but would have to lay it DOWN under the stand that would be funny...

I want to guage how long the tank lasts so I hooked it up to the 220 today. I had the 5lb on it but that will be a true spare now. The original 10# went back to the 180. I have a high bubble rate to the atomizer and sitting at 20# PSI. I expect it to last at least 3 months easily...

    1. I called ahead of time to see what they had. They had 2. When I went there the owner brought them out. Told me one was stainless steel and the other aluminum. Told me to pick one. I pointed to the aluminum one with the new fittings/valve and he said 'Excellent choice'.

I learned all that stuff here on this forum so knew what I was looking at. Thanks again Left C, Matt, and others for posting the excellent regulator information.

How could I pick SS when it was just as ugly? Plus, the valve assembly was old....The new one is so shiny

    2. I have a place less than 2 miles from my house. It is way more expensive but is SO close and the owners are really nice folks..

I brought my 5 lb there yesterday and they had it for me today and was a 'rush'. Cost me $25 for the refill.

While I was paying for the new 10 lb, I asked that owner how much for a 5 lb refill. He said '$10'. And I KNOW you could wait for it as long as they are not busy. I have never had to leave it to refill or I went to the bank and came back or something. I have refilled there for years.

So, just to compare. $25 for 24 hr turnaround but travel and pick up time as 10 mins vs $10 for a while you wait, but the travel is min 35 minutes due to traffic and location.

    What would YOU do? lol

BTW, I didn't find this doing 'research' for the Barr report. I wanted another 10lb tank that would accept a permaseal and I knew they would have one I am happy to share that but it wasn't altruistic on my part lol
