Exactly, I wonder why it's soo hard for us New Yorkers to find these parts.. It's kinda irritating. Anyways would you know what parts I need to translate this to 3/4 in tubing on its own loop?

Ok, question time. I am starting to put together my filtration system for my 155 gallon tank and decided that going oversize was better than undersizing, so I bought a Reef Octopus OB300D overflow box. This one is rated at 2000 gallons/hr and has dual 1inch outlets. It will feed into a sump that I am building that will handle about 1200-1400 gallons/hr.
The question now is the pump size. I am not going to try and push 2000 gallons through that tank, but want a good decent flow. I also want to go with a fractioning impeller or needle wheel pump to use as my CO2 injection method.
I really like the eheim 1103, but at 5 ft head the flow would be reduced down too much. So I was looking at the Danner Model 18 supreme w/fractioning impeller, this one would push about 1200 gal/hr @ 5 ft head. I plan on splitting the outlet which is 1 inch into two 3/4 in feeds, one for each side of the tank.
Does this sound like too much pump?
Comments, suggestions?
Thanks.
I recently received my used 1103 but am not happy about the noise it makes.. so Im thinking about either buying a new one... or buying a mag drive as well for more pump... so i can eliminate some of my powerheads... im liking the idea of the mag 18... but im not sure if it would be way too noisy..
Hi,
I think the mag will work better for your application. Note that the impeller may reduce PROJECTED flow rates, so they may be a bit optimistic is all.
Use a ball valve on the OUTLET side if too powerful a flow. The 1103 is a nice pump but not for the MAIN sump pump. You can use the 1103 IN THE SUMP and simply let the main sump pump send to the tank. That way the main pump does not have to be a NW impeller type.
A 155 is a good amount of water and better to go a bit too much than not enough....
I had a mag 1800 on my sump when I had a 180. Fed by twin 1" intakes to twin bio towers.. I had a DIY NW in the sump and that output fed into the intake of the sump pump to ensure little loss to the sump degassing...
Make any sense?
Thanks,
Gerry.
