Thread: PO4 sources

    Question PO4 sources

    Hi all,

I'm new here, (and new to aquatic gardens), I want to start IE dosing my tank, but I haven't found where to buy KH2PO4 in small batches where I live (Costa Rica), only wholesale 25kg bags.

So, I was wondering if I can use orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4) as a source of PO4, because it is more readily available here.

    Cheers,
    Juan

Hi, I've no idea if H3PO4 is a good choice for dosing.
But many are using Na2HPO4 (Fleet Enema) as PO4 source.

It seems KH2PO4, K2HPO4, H3PO4 can be used.

But EI probably uses more PO4 than PMDD+PO4.
So still not sure if H3PO4 is good choice.

5 mls of Fleet Enema (look in pharmacy) has the same amount of PO4 as 1 gram of KH2PO4.

Dosing calculations for Fleet Enema are also included in ACP's Fertilator, and in my StockSol Spreadsheet.

$7 133 ml bottle of Fleet Enema on my nearest pharmacy, the equivalent of 26.6 grams of KH2PO4.

    Thanks a lot to all!

Can you find generic one? Same thing and cheaper.
