Poseidon pump with Nu-Clear filter?

I'm in the planning phase for my next tank - an ADA 90P (approx 50 gal). I plan to use a Nu-Clear 533 for filtration and am trying to decide which pump to use. I don't plan to use mazzei for CO2 so I only need enough pressure for the canister and an inline DIY reactor.

Noise level is my prime concern for the setup as it will be next to my living room couch. I'm strongly considering the Poseidon PS3. However I have no experience with them or with the Nu-Clear canisters.

Hi,

I use an NC-533 model on my 180 and it does a great job! Easy to change the cartridge, has a PSI guage to help you determine when the filter is clogging, and works very well, IME.

I would suggest getting a spare cartridge so you can swap them out easily and it gives you several weeks to bleach, clean, de-chlorinate the dirty one.

I would think it would do a GREAT job on a 50 gal. Might be oversizing it a bit.......

I use a panworld 250-ps right next to my couch/living room and I don't think it is too noisy, or I am used to it

I have heard good things on the Iwakis and blueline pumps...........

I know the NC has a top pressure rating on it (1200 gph max?), so get a pump that matches/exceeds a bit the canister rating. Don't forget to install a throttle valve between the pump and the NC so you can adjust the flow...........

Gerryd is the NC-533 model on your 180g tank all you have for filtering yor water

Yep. Just a sponge filter covering each of the two intakes and that's it.

Most likely I will add an NC bio canister in the next couple of weeks......

Do you find NC better than OC brand, and do use carbon with it for a planted tank?

I never tried any other brand. I read other's experiences here, looked at them both on the web, and chose the NC. Mostly because of the clamp assembly to close the lid. Plus they have the extension kits to double the capacity. My cabinet is too small for the kit, but maybe in the future.

No carbon. I removed the charcoal/carbon bag that came with it from the chamber and run it empty.

I think they are both good filters, but I liked the NC better.......

However, the OC are also very good and many folk here, includng Tom use them all the time.

Either one is good IMO.

Are you running your OC on a 1 inch inline, How did you connect your Mazzei venturi for your co2?

Hi,

Yes, 1" intakes to pump. 1" from pump to T. One leg of T to mazzei and the other leg to the NC. Then combine and back out to tank.

Sorry to steal your thread bibbels but just had to ask these question? So Gerryd you running a 1 inch Mazzei and what model is? And do you connect your pump first before the filter and Mazzei? { do want to push the water not pull?} Do you have a pic of pluming work?
