CO2 Drop Checker Background

I don't know if anybody else does this but with a glass CO2 drop checker it is very hard to discern the color of the DC solution while in the tank.

What I do is take a small very fine threaded WHITE fish net and use it as a background when I want to check my DC solution color. I find it helps ALOT in seeing the shade of green the DC is displaying. A whit e background iseems best to me. Especially for the dual chamber Cal Aqua Labs DC where you are comparing 2 colors.

What do you guys use as a background?

Nice looking home-grown DC. Do you use more than one DC in your tanks?

Somebody should think about adding a white background insert into to the glass CO2 DC like you did with yours.

Trust me, they are not DIY drop checkers..I WISH I had such skill lol

I purchased them both on the Web. They are Boyu II type......

Yes, I use two and move them around the tank to help determine current, flow, c02 range.

I agree. I think some DIY do add the white. Search around, I know someone has done it here.

I don't use a background. I take the DC out of the tank to compare it with the ph chart. The problem is if the light shining on the DC is not the same as the ph chart it's hard to compare. However, using a white background will make it easier to determine what shade of green you have in the DC.

Use non-transparent white suction cup (acts as DC backgroud) and place DC on the rear glass.
You can now easily distinguish color of DC's solution.

I now use a Cal Aqua drop checker, with the reference color bulb. I find it pretty easy to match the colors if I add another drop of pH reagent to the reference bulb - I got Cal Aqua to acknowledge that this would work well. When I look at it now I am seeing both bulbs against the same background, so even if I can't see exactly what the color is, I can see if both bulbs are the same color.
