    Elatine Triandra - ET

    Hi all,

Just wanted to share my very short in duration experience with this plant. Tom sent some over approx 3-4 weeks ago iirc.

The cuttings/portions arrived in healthy shape with white/fine roots and attractive green leaves...

I planted it here and there in the tank, in both higher and lower light areas. Min 50 and max 125 umoles and will post more accurate numbers later but for now these will suffice.

I do inject c02 and dose EI macros/micros daily as follows:

    1/2 tsp of Potassium Nitrate
    1/2 tsp of Monopotassium Phosphate
    <1/2 tsp of Csm&B Plantex
<1/8 tsp of Iron Chelate EDTA 13% - just a pinch really

    All sourced from aquariumfertilizer.com

Within 2-3 days I could see it 'grip' the substrate as the roots dug in. Another 2-3 days after that I could see it starting to spread. As it spreads I take portions of the new growth and replant in the bare areas so the carpet will be done sooner. The plant will readily grow on top of itself so I have to keep it trimmed low. It grows REALLY fast which Tom warned me about (twice I think even)....

In looks, it resembles stauro repens 049, just smaller in all respects. Well, to me it does and maybe because I have it in front of the stauro

It is a really nice bright green color and will uproot easily for replanting. It holds well, but also comes up easily, so a win win.

I haven't seen anyone munch on it either....It looks nice so far, no melting issues, or anything. Nice healthy growth. Seems to stay short but we will see. I think the piling up will be more of an issue.

I expect that within 2 weeks or less, the carpet should be finished. Another 2 weeks after I expect my first trimming appointment lol

I will soon be overrun with it I expect, so will supply Henry so he can make available more widely...

    Later.

I always find myself googling the names of the plants folks post here, that way I get a visual. I hope i get better with their scientific names.

    Hi,

Just keep using the proper names; it really does make it much easier.

Fernando you're on the Barr now! Welcome!!! Let me tell you, Gerry's tank is awesome. I've seen it in person as Gerry is a good friend of mine. He has a 220 custom build rimless tank. Very nice!!! I've been fortunate enough to see the progress of the tank over the last year.

I also was there when Tom scaped the tank which I learned a lot in a short amount of time. Gerry does EI like most of us, but he is very good about his WCs. I'm going up next week to see Gerry and hang out around the tank.
    Thanks

    JJ

I think ET is about the fastest filler for new tank lawns etc.
Faster than gloss, but does not have the pesky runners, more clump like and easier to trim and replant than Gloss ever will be.
    I have not mowed ET.

Only pull off a little on the top or the rug and then replant, it fills back in, in a week or so. About 2-3x faster recovery than Gloss.
