To cover or not to cover

I have read that in dry start method humidity plays an important role.Tom suggests to cover the top with a glass /polythene cover, but as I have seen, for the optimum photosynthesis to happen along with the humidity the concentration of the gasses inside the tank is also vital.when we cover the tank we are limiting the CO2 access to the plant, though plants produce CO2 during respiration.
In greenhouses, they constantly monitor humidity by circulating fresh air and they never let condensation to occu
r, which may contribute to fungus attack.
So which one is better to cover or not ,or to provide lot of openings?
