    Smile Take That!

    Hi,

    I will see Henry’s 2-ppm PO4 and raise you 3-ppm PO4 more for a total of 5-ppm PO4.

You mean a total of 5 ppm phosphates, I hope there is no big bang

    Hi,

    Yes, 5-ppmphosphates (PO4), I am calling Henry’s bluff!

  4. I have increased po4 to 2-2.5 ppm, still don't have courage to increase it beyond this
However this seems to be working, no new plants are having green algae, I am sniping of infected leaves.
However whenever I am doing trimming, some of the older leaves of stem which has been trimmed gets this algae, it does not spread to new leaves.
Is this a coincidence or does it mean something.

  5. This 45 g tank has now 190 watt of CFl light with aluminium reflector.
Are the light high or should I leave them.

  6. Just wanted to report that increase of phospahtes to 3 ppm seems to have solved the problem.
    Thanks all.

I know that now but it requires a big leap of faith to actually do it.
From the day I started in hobby it has been said at numerous places that phosphates are responsible for algae.
I think you must be only person who started saying that it is not.
Glad that I listened to you.
I would like to add one more observation, even in low light tanks keeping high phosphates seem to help.
I have recently set up a low light, non co2 tank and I have been maintaining po4 at about 1 ppm, no3 10, k10 with weekly water changes. I am also using excel in this tank.
Earlier whenever I had set such tanks algae was bound to come sooner or later, however I am not observing any appreciable algae now.
It is proving to be a easy to maintain tank.

Once I made a mistake and added KH2PO4 instead of KNO3. The result was 10 ppm of PO4. I found out after a week. No algae.

  10. Is there a ratio between no3 and po4 that needs to be maintained, for that matter is there a ratio between NPK that we need to maintain if we dose near EI, this is for a CRS tank that I use Toms ppmd+p daily system. I am not changing the ya ratios, just want to understand them
