Water turning green - 11-05-2007, 10:04 PM

Water turning cloudy and greenish. 50% water 2 days ago. Cannot see from one end to the opposite and getting cloudier.
Just got the diatoms under control and now green water.

I want to change the water but if I do that I'll loose the fertilizers.
I have my lights down to 10 hrs/day to help with diatoms.

Any suggestions?
tks

Losing the fertilizers is not a problem - just dose them again.

Green water can be treated with a 3-4 day blackout, followed by a big water change, or by using a UV unit for about the same time, followed by a big water change. If the plants are growing well, and there are plenty of them in the tank, the green water shouldn't return.

Yes, the plants are growing very well. Things are starting to look beautiful.
The diatoms are very much under control with the ottos and bristle nose L48 ancistrus.
Thank you very much for your advice.

regards,

raul
