I just was doing my Sunday water change and decided to run to Vortex DE filter for a couple of hours. Dumb me started the filter without the filter element and spewed DE into the tank. It's a cloudy mess! I am now running the filter correctly to try to remove the DE. Qustions:

1. Is this harmful to the fish and plants?
2. Will the DE cause a diatom algea problem?
3. Any other concerns or recommendations?

It will create an irritation to the gills of your fish ... but your fish should survive just fine ... and it should cause no harm to your plants, although it might be beneficial to "fluff" them to help stir up and remove the residue DE that has settled on the leaves ...
