I have found 2 used for sale at a LFS ,I think he is asking too much so i'm starting to do research and came across that they like too heat up and shut down? could any one confirm this?

I don't know about heating up and shuting down but I do know if they get dirty or if any subtrate material gets into the propeller you will soon have to take it apart and clean the magnet to resume operation.

I would not recommend it for any type of filtration application. Only clean water circulation uses.

Pockets that would go for all pumps if it gets dirty or clog's up you would have to take it apart and clean it? When they came out on the Market they were made too run there inline filter system? her is a site that might be of interest:

I did leave out the fact that I purchased the "Pentair quiet one" pump for external use. I used it as a gravel washing pump with my Python and it was mounted outside my window. It had a ball valve for adjustable outflow which ran down a pipe and into a drywell which I installed in my backyard which is the same dimensions of my aquarium.

I chose the Pentair product because it was a well known name in the pool/spa industry and also had a good price.

The author in the article has come to the same conclusion that I did.

I usually only really inspect my filters every two-three-four weeks and depend on my noticing that flow has stopped or something to that effect. I think it is important that if a pump is depended on for a filter application that I would purchase an better quality one such as the Iwaki w/japense motor... just like the author of the article has said.

Just because the Quiet One pumps were originally design to do a particular task doesn't mean they are qualified.

I have three Eheim canister filters and they have never needed there motors clean to resume working. But by the same token I had purchased an inexpensive tetra HOB filter from Walmart for my Quarantine tank and within 5 months the motor has lost 60% of its original power and even cleaning cannot help.

My choices would be Eheim/Iwaki w/japense motor

I have the original Quiet One type pump setup with my Lifeguard system. The pump says Rainbow Plastics and also has the name Grudfos on it. I bought my tank used and it came with this setup. I have not had any problems in the 4 years I have had the tank. I use a foam pre-filter over the in tank intake and have only had the pump apart to clean it once in those 4 years. It turned out it didn't have anything to be cleaned so I haven't done anything with it in the last 2 years or so.

Obviously, some people have had problems with this pump but my experience with it has been great.

Thanks Craig D and Pockets I just wanted to hear peoples Opinion on the OLD Pump made by Rainbow Plastics {Grudfos } I believed they had 2 colors of the same pump model , I think the older one was Blue and the newer one was Brown IMO i could be mistaken , The Blue model was shown in the article :

The store that i have seen this use pump are Brown color, So Craig you still running this pump? The only problem in buying this old pump beside it being old is getting parts if needed they don't make these any more, The pump looks in very good shape but for $75. I can't really think of it.
