Hi all...

Making steady progress trying to learn the ropes of planted tank. I've decided I'm gonna try riccia and have read up on it here and elsewhere but have a few questions mainly concerning if it will work in MY tank. I plan to keep it floating.

My questions are:
1. Does this tend to be a delicate filter clogger?
2. Is my gourami (who nibbles at my java moss) likely to destroy it?
3. Can this do well in a non co2 tank? I'm following the 'non co2 methods' for this tank. Also, is co2 less of an issue since this will be floating and will be exposed to air?
4. Does it stay relatively flat, maybe an inch? I've got lots of driftwood just below the surface here and I've had flow issues here before particularly when my floating hornwort or java moss grew depth.

I've only got 1 wpg but it's a t-5 only two inches above the water and I'm dosing dry ferts kno3 and kh2po4 and seachem flourish weekly.

Hi,

1. Yes. Based on how much you have and how much it is disturbed, you may be cleaning the filter basket a lot.
2. Yes. Males will also use it to build a bubble nest, esp if females are around. Plus, since you plan on having it float, the gouramis will assume it was put there just for them lol
3. Think so but not sure. They like c02 more than anything I hear.
4. Depends on rate of growth. Mine is definitely higher than an inch when I trim it.

In your tank, it should grow, albeit more slowly.

I think I could deal with the fragility and hungry gourami, but the co2 is the main question I think as I've also heard it likes co2. My other plants that I've floated have usually done really well. They are easier plants to grow, (hornwort, java moss, and anacharis) but I wonder if part of it is contact with the air.

I've seen beautiful pictures of a carpet type plant floating on the surface, and I think it's riccia. Are you aware of any others?
