1. What are your goals for this tank? Fish only or a planted tank?

2. Will you be using c02?

3. Will you be using any additional fertilization?

4. Type of substrate?

There are many different types of lighting and fixtures that work well, but may not be optimal for you, based on what type of setup you have..........

I am going to used ada substrate, I have a Milwaukee c02 controler , I have A 250 MH 6700KV pfo retofit ,and two pc 65w 6500k pfo retofit. I did not like the pc to much the last time I had this sit up. I had a eheim 2215 canister filter on it. but I think I am going to drill the tank and put a sump in the basement and then plump the r/o unit into it . yes I fertilize but I did not know what i was going ,will need a lot of help in that area.

If you decided to build a house, wouldn't the first thing to do be to decide on what kind of house, where, with how many bedrooms? That is where you are with an aquarium too. What kind of aquarium are you going to set up? It could be a minimum maintenance, low light tank. Or, it could be a high light, pressurized CO2, planted with high light demnding plants. Or, it could be something in the middle, say a moderate light tank, with slow growing plants. All of this to say, first decide on what kind of aquarium you want, how much maintenance you are willing to do, and what types of plants you are interested in. Then, you can start making the other decisions about light, fertilizing, CO2 method, etc.

you could try a 150 W HQI and mount it to a clock with small gear mounted to a large + gear to add toque. Give the dia of rotation about 10" and place that inside the hood.

That would be ideal. Every hour, the light would move around 10" circle.
Others have used 2x150W, or a combo fo MH and T5's or nothing but PC or T5's.

Really up to you, how much light you want etc.

That's an awesome idea about using a clock motor and attaching it to the MH light. That's really a cool idea, and sounds like a great way to spread around the beam of the MH.
