Questions on new shrimp tank - 09-10-2007, 05:32 AM

Lately I decided to set up a new project. It consists of a 29g tank which will house shrimps. I will have a couple of driftwood pieces and plants will be mainly mosses and some anubias nana. I am aiming for breeding these shrimps and make the mosses grow healthy but since I already have a high light and maintenance tank, I would like this tank to be no CO2 and preferably the less ferts the better.

1) 1.8wpg NO T8 lamps - is this too much for a no CO2 and very low fert tank?

2) Fert - Tropica Plant Nutrition - is this ok as a fertilizer? Dosing will be once a week

3) Substrate - Flourite or Onyx Sand?

Thank you.

Well what I've experienced with mosses and DEFINATELY anubias nana, is that they don't need the dosing or ferts! But that's just me, and they might not need any substrate either, but I'm not sure, I grow all mine on rocks and wood.

(I emphisized the anubias because I grew a "FOREST" of it in the back of my tank in two months around 5in. x 5in. with only 3 small plants at the start!)

STARTING DISCUS AND CICHLID TANK BY NEXT MONTH!!

Yes, I think that normal gravel should do because I do not intend to plant in the substrate. Maddog how many wpg did you have on your tank?
