Plant ID & Trimming Q? - 07-27-2007, 03:19 PM

Can anyone ID this plant for me? Its the one in the back, covered with BBA? I think it is either Ludwigia Peruensis or Telanthera Rosefolia, but I could def. be wrong...its just a stem plant. Im curious how to trim it? I would like to trim the top that is covered wtih BBA off?? Sorry the quality of the photo stinks....the plant in the back left. Its got some green, yellow and different shades of red on it. If its just a stem plant, it should be ok to trim the top off...right?

Thanks very much
Eric

I think it is Alternanthera reineckii....am I ok to just trim the top off a lil bit? I know most of the times its "trim and replant tops" but the top is the problem

Thanks

You can trim almost any stem plant by cutting off the top and either replanting the cutting or just discarding it and letting the base sprout new growth. Have you tried Excel to kill off the BBA?

Thanks VaughnH

I did try to squirt Excel on the BBA using a syringe, and it seemed to help things a lil bit...I vac it off during my water changes, and it seems to come back. Im running about 2bps, and I dont think I can go much higher right now. I should have my skimmer on tuesday tho! I also dose 10mL excel daily or every other day. I hate to have to trim the tops off...its on all the stems I have, and the tops are what looks the nicest on that plant. I was hoping the "re-growth" would be a lil fast tho

Thanks again
