is there a way to stop BBA in a non co2 tank. it's not bad yet.. just started on my A. nana and sag.


55gal 2.1wpg
flourish 2x week
excel 1.5% everyday
water changes 25% a week

I remove the most heavily-infested leaves and dose Excel at 2 to 3 times the recommended strength, for 3 to 5 days.

Healthy plant growth supposedly prevents or discourages it.

It might also attack individual leaves that are in a weakened state. I recently transplanted some Sagittaria subulata that had developed abnormally long leaves because of the conditions in which they were kept. In the new tank the old leaves weakened and were replaced by new, normal length leaves. The old leaves developed BBA; the newer ones have not.

You might have too many fast growing plants relative to the Anubias or have them in higher light/tank might have too high of light/fish load.

Those should be fairly easy to rule out.

SAE's are highly effective in non CO2 tanks if you start out good and maintain high plant biomass etc.
