Anubias nana leaf curling? - 03-19-2007, 07:00 AM

Hey all, I've got two anubias nana in my tank whose newest leaves are all curled up (from stem to tip) The older leaves look fine. Is this showing a deficiency of some kind? I have 28 watts of 6700k light over 10g with pure Flourite substrate, adding Flourish, Flourish Excel (treating some BBA), and API Leafzone. The nana are tied to rock, with the roots just starting to penetrate the substrate.

Getting my hands on some greg watson dry ferts next week. I haven't checked my nitrates in some time however, since my test kit ran out and I've been lazy. Could that be the reason? The anubias afzelli, as well as all of the other plants in my tank are doing well. Thanks

Id make a guess at CO2, or lack of.. the excel possibly isnt providing enough carbon at that level of lighting.

I don't think you need to be concerned about the leaf shape. The new leaves on my Anubias naturally start out all rolled up. As they continue to grow the leaf will unfold.

Er, *smacks self in head* I forgot to mention that I have DIY CO2 running. The air stone feeds into the filter intake. I knew I forgot something, sorry, lol.

Higgins - I realized that the new leaves all start out rolled up like a cigar and fold out, but after folding out, my new leaves appear to be curling fowards, so that the tip is reaching for the stem. I'm not sure if this is normal

Thanks for the replies

Here is a pic of my tank. It's a few days old. You can see the curling leaf on the nana in the lower right hand corner (the taller one is afzelli) Hopefully the other plants can give a clue as to what's going on.

Sorry to bump this, but I'm still having this issue and having a heck of a time figuring out what's going on. The other plants in my tank are flourishing, and the anubias leaves look very healthy, but this curling is annoying. I took the recommendation of a few people and put the anubias under some shade (the sword) so it doesn't get direct light, but it still does this. Currently, my tank:

28 watts over 10g (tank about 2 months old)
30ppm CO2 (drop checker)
Flourite substrate (about a month old)

EI dosing with:
1/8 tsp KNO3
1/16 tsp KH2PO4
1/16 tsp KSO4

2 mL of Flourish on off days

2 Flourish tabs

Nitrates stay at a constant 15 ppm, dunno about rest, 50% water change weekly with light gravel vacuuming.

Pic of anubias (and a snail, lol)
