Post Photo Period - 08-23-2006, 12:16 AM

Hi all,

I've read quite a few websites that say that an interrupted photo period can reduce algae. I currently have a three hour afternoon siesta on my planted tank but it tends to be when I'm home and prefer to see it lit (I'm a shift worker so I'm out at various times of the day)

Has anyone made any tests to prove this one way or another?

I would prefer a continuously lit tank myself.

Brian

I've never seen anything that suggest it helps.
Good CO2, nutrients, mainteance, that will help.

One person suggest it, and suddenly everyone thinks it's the way. Well, algae has no issue with starting and stopping growth in light.

The siesta aspect allows the water to build back up more CO2 into the tank, so adding enough CO2 is ther solution to cure the algae issue, not a siesta.

Treat the cause, not the symtom.

Thanks Tom,

I often wondered. A lot of people say a lot of different things; it gets very confusing!!

Hi,
Consider the variety of information part of your lesson in the planted hobby.
Everyone goes through it to some degree. :gw

Hi,

Some plants close up at about 8 hours of lights. I wonder if a siesta will affect them somehow.
