With the dominance of the ADA it's contest, I feel a bit irked that more is not done to promote various styles.
Within Penjing alone, there are nearly 15 distinct styles alone.

Some may appeal to you, other perhaps not.

The next video will certainly appeal to you however.

Much of the nicer rocks are actually cemented or screwed together with bolts etc.
Sometimes they are found, then cut with a wet tile saw to have a flat base.

Kimura's works is very well done and each of the 4 displays offer a different rock style and planting style. Such displays and different styles offer a massive source for various types of new Aquarium planted displays. Many rock displays are fused together with plastic cements or drilled and bolted together, or a mix of both methods to form the base rock structures. Then soil can be packed in 1/2 way, plants added, then capped with more soil. Like most things, the more you practice and do, the better you get.

You can use sealers for the cement or use different water proof types plastic types.
