Approximate PPM per dose? - 01-29-2008, 04:10 AM

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the approximate PPM added to the tank for N,P,K for each dose (3x a week)? I'm wanting to mix up my own solutions to work with and I can do the rest of the math myself, but I don't know how many Grams are in each teaspoon measurement.

Thanks in advance

All dosing calculators have them built in.
So you can use those.

You can also use a density of the substance and that the 1/4 teaspoon = 5mls or 5 cc's.

Per week:
I generally add about 20-30ppm of NO3 via KNO3, maybe less if the fish loading/feeding is high or light is low etc.
I add about 3 ppm of PO4.
And about 20mls of Traces(TMG as a standard) per 80 liters of tank volume.

That should provide non limiting levels and with a weekly 50% water change, you are not going to build up that high.

If you wish to target specific ppm's, then you should use the EI dosing cal:

Nutri-Calc[v1.9.3 Mar 10/07]: an EI Dosing Calculator & Tank Size Calc
http://www.cherniaksoftware.com/home.../NutriCalc.exe

Or use the search function here.

It should pop up.

Well... it seems that the nutri calc link is dead.

Thanks for your explanation Tom. I've got my micro dosing sorted out, I just wanted to try out your macro dosing for a bit. I use a combination of CSMB and Flourish for micros, and as soon as what I have left runs out I'll try out TMG.

So it's safe to say that each dose should have

20 - 30 ppm NO3 a week / 3 doses = ~8ppm NO3 / dose
3 ppm PO4 a week / 3 doses = ~ 1 ppm PO4 / dose

I tend not to trust calculators for these simple chemistry calculations as either the software is buggy, or a decimal place is off etc. Gives me a reason to use my chemistry minor for fun.

THanks!
