Changing over to EI dosing? - 11-03-2007, 03:47 PM

Want to change dosing over to EI.

Please confirm the following:
(Dosing Guideline for high light, well planted, 100 gal)
There is no dose for K2SO4
Should I increase present GH by 1-2 degrees (with something like Barr's GH Booster)

My city water GH 4 degrees (71.6ppm)

tks

You can if you wish, you can check the city water for Ca++. And Mg perhaps as well.

If there's a decent mix, say 5:1 to 2:1 ratio for that GH of 4, you might not need any Gh booster.

You can add a degree or two if you want.
But if the Mg is low, you might just want to add MgSO4, epsom salt, 2x a week etc instead, it's cheaper for you.

Regards,

Just got my city Typical Water Analysis Report (mg/l = ppm):
Please confirm that I am reading correctly:
Ca Calcium 21ppm
Mg Magnisium 3.4
Ratio 21/3.4 = 6.2:1

So I don't GH booster?

thanks very much

Probably not. Maybe add some MgSO4, epsom salt, 2x a week.
Say 1/4 teaspoon per 80 liters of tank.

Thank you very much, Tom.
My plants are mostly growing very well and the tank is starting to look great.
I can see the progress made daily!
I now have some greenish cloudiness for which I may "blackout" the tank but I'll wait a little (patience you suggested) to see if it improves on its own.

The diatoms are under control by the otos and bristle nose. It's not an issue any more, as you had mentioned.

regards,
raul
