As mentioned, there's no time limit really.
Once the rug is grown in well or what ever species you want, then order the other plants like the stem plants, Vals etc etc that will fill in the rest of the space and fill and plant.

I am about to give this method a try. Sorry if this has been mentioned & I've missed it, but with this method, how many hours of lighting do I use per day?

thanks in advance

Ferts for Emergent HC - 10-16-2007, 02:40 PM

I'm thinking of setting up a new tank using this method and had 2 questions:

If I use soilmaster (3-4" depth), would it be a good thing to mix some laterite and/or crushed plant tabs in the bottom 1"?

Do I fertilize during emergent period? If so, what and how much?

Thanks,

Mike

If you are using anything other than say soil, ADAQ aqua soil, then you need some form of fertilizer for flourite, EC, SMS, plain sand etc, and it needs NPK+ micros.

How about Plantex or PMDD for the soil?

How about Plantex or PMDD for the soil? - 10-16-2007, 05:56 PM

Thanks, Tom.

The plant tabs should take care of NPK. For micros, what if I mixed in a few teaspoons of Plantex CSM +B to the bottom inch along with the laterite and crushed plant tabs?

Or alternatively, I have a bag of PMDD that I bought before I knew better. What do you think of my mixing in a few tablespoons of this (instead of the plant tabs and Plantex)? FYI, it's a 36 hex tank, about 1/2 - 3/4 of which will be covered by the HC so we're not talking abut a lot of area. . Given that, how much of either of the above options would you add?

Finally, since I'm asking so many questions, where is Halsey? The world wonders?

Mike
