vermicompost in planted tank - 09-19-2008, 04:27 PM

hi,
i am planning a new planted tank. i already have a small 2' tank. my new tank is a 5'er. i plan to use vermicompost mixed with soil which i obtained from my local nursery topped with 3" of river gravel. CO2 is going to be DIY initially and later pressurized. lighting is going to be about 2.5 to 2.7 W/G. i am unable to get laterite however i was able to get some vermicompost. is it possible to use vermicompost with some soil in a planted tank? is vermicompost same as earthworm castings?
