Tom, question about the DIY reactor - 01-23-2008, 04:46 PM

I found the thread with the details on building this thing... Looks great and satisfies my DIY cheap side. A few questions though.

1. I have a 65 gal tank. I would like to mount the reactor down in the stand and use the system with a powerhead. With the system several feet below the powerhead in the tank will it have enough power to actually move the water through the system and back into the tank? What size powerhead should I use for this?

2. On the return side in the tank should I return the flow low in the tank or near the top? Should I use some sort of flow diffuser?

3. Do you have pictures on the site somewhere that shows the system on a tank and working?

I'd just hang it off the back of the tank, add some elbows to route the water in/out etc. It's no different than any other reactor set up.

The problem is that the tank is pretty much visable from all sides and do not want to over-clutter the back side of it preventing viewing it from that side.

The guys at americanaquariumproducts.com will help you choose the right pump/power head and they will give you the best price.

Tell them what you are doing and ask what you just asked here. They will tell you exactly what model you need.

My favorite places to buy stuff for my planted tank is from greg watson's fert store and american aquarium products. I haven't found a plant distributor that I trust or like yet

See the Needle wheel thread then.
You can use an inline version, loop it to the canister etc.

My 32 Gal ADA cube tank has drilled bottom for canister in/out and will have a needle wheel loop+heater(Hydro) and is open top thin slim line MH HQI.

So there is nothing seen on the sides.
Most of the tanks I have/do, tend to be this way.
