Would like to know if i could use a co2 fire extinguisher
(2k) bottle. And could i use a regulater that normally fits on official co2 bottles? Thanks 4 any info.

very easy to do thankfully the fittings for normal regulators that use refillable bottles are all standard, so any co2 fire extinguisher should fit no problem, just screw it on.

the fittings are all the same even on the big pub co2 bottles. you can rent these from all sorts of places depending on which country your in I guess.

I agree. There is a local fire extinguisher sales and refill dealer near my house, they sell and rent bottles. They also sell basic pressure guages but dont have anything I would use on the aquarium. The good thing about them is, I have a 15# CO2 bottle and they fill it for $8.00.

I would suggest when you go pressurized CO2 you find a good place to get refills. I say this because I had a leak once in my regulator and I found my bottle empty on Friday evening. Most places were closed for the weekend, but the fire extinguisher shop was open on Saturday. I didn't want to go 3 days with no CO2.

thats a really good point. My guy just replaces my cylinder with a full one for £5, he'll even drop it to the house if hes passing the door, which is pretty amazing.

Concerning Leaking regulators. I had my first tank filled and set it all up. A week later it was almost empty. Hmmm Well I went back and got another one. Same thing. Oh I finally figured it out. After you hook yours all up and have it running, go back and check the tightness of your regulator to the tank. Check this often until you know for sure it don't leak. After I tightened mine, and then waited a week, I checked it and found that it was loose. I had to retighten this maybe three times before it was tight. I think it was due to the little gasket settleing in.

A freshly filled CO2 tank is always very cold. That, too, may cause leaks as it warms up to room temperature. The last bottle I installed, I retightened the nut about every hour or so for awhile, then again tightened it the next day. And, finally it stayed tight. Deciding to wait for the bottle to warm up to room temperature before even installing it, which would eliminate most of that problem is hard to do, because you know the tank is without CO2 while you are waiting.

Thanks to all for the info, will surely go this way 4 my new co2 setup. Sometimes things are more simple than they first seem.
