Smile co2 drop checker question. - 04-11-2007, 02:27 AM

Hello everyone. Hello Tom..Great to be a member here. Anyway without further a-do
is there someone round here selling pre-mixed soultion for a drop checker?
i read there was on amother forum. hope that doesnt sound too lazy. however i do know that if its coming from here its probably a quality product and much more accurate than i could probably make. if not i will give it a go and hope my co2 levels are as accurate as i would like them to be ...dan

okay so i got my drop checker..does the size of it matter? when i got it there was no mention of tank size?...so moving on i mixed my soultion as per Bills guidelines but when i go to put the solution in it doesnt all fit..is this a problem? or do i just put the mixture in till the bubble is almost full? thanks dan

just put some solution in... enough so that there is an air pocket on top... a few drops of ph indicator .. it will be fine.

thank you very much..dan
could you give me an example of how you set yours up?
do you just put kh solution in and add the ph solution? or do you mix a certain amount of kh with the ph solution? im thrown off because bill gave me a specific formula and i need to know if things need to be measured correctly or not. Bill did state that others do things differently but im new to drop checkers and would like to know others routines..thanks again..dan

I bought bill's kh solution, but if you are mixing your own I think you are just confusing two steps into one. Make the kh solution and put that in a container, any ocntainer that is clean. Now take a little bit of that solution and fill your drop checker bulb about half way ... drop a few drops of ph indicator in.

if your dropchecker is tough to fill at all, then take a small amount of the kh solution and throw in some ph indicator, mix it up so that it is darkish blue but not opaque, and fill the bulb of your drop checker is about half way full.. Either way, the amt of ph indicator does not need to be precise so much as judged by color. My drop checker is the tear drop kind so I don't need to worry about getting fluid in.. but the bent kind is a little harder to work with .. so mixing fluid and indicator ahead of time may make your life slightly easier.. but it is not the precise part... the precise part is getting to kh 4 or 5 in the first place.
