drop checker and mist - 03-25-2007, 02:45 PM

just something I wondered:

Does the use of CO2 mist induces false readings of the CO2 drop checker?
This is how I came up with the idea: If the little CO2 bubbles get into the air gap of the drop checker, one can envision that the co2 concentration in the air gap is higher than the CO2 concentration that is dissolved in the tank.

what are your thoughts about it?

greets,

yme

wouldnt think so. all my mist is very dissolved by the time it even reaches the drop checker in the current anyway.

If the mist did get into the air gap it would soon reach equillibrium with the water again. The only way this would be a problem is if you read the color soon after a slug of CO2 bubbles entered the air gap, or if the CO2 bubbles continuously entered the air gap in large quantity.

Even still, I'd place it near where there is a a lot of mist.
Place in good current with little mist.

all right
there will definately be some bubbles getting into the airgap. The bubbles are nicely floating throughout the tank.

Just a moment ago I orderded the drop checker. We will see the result next week

(and just for the record: no good ideas towards my pale new growth of the stargrass; see my other recent topic????)

greets,

yme
