iodine & calcium for inverts - impact in planted tank? - 03-19-2007, 10:05 PM

Hello,

Invert recipies suggest dosing with iodine & calcium to maintain healthy shrimp, or snails for those who *want* to keep them.

Any reason in the planted tank not to dose idodine or calcium?

How much/frequently not sure but as one example: kent marine calcium at half strength = 2 drops/5gal every day; diluted iodine [not sure of typical dilution], couple drops/5gal 3x per week. Example extracted from misc. shrimp/snail site.

Thanks,

"growitnow"
Bob

if you have sufficient GH for your plants, then I dont see why youd need to dose more for the inverts.. no clue on the other though

A small amount of Iodide will cause no issues for plants near as I or anyone seems to be able to tell. I've added it etc.

Iodide enriched table salt can be used in small amounts.
Or seasalt etc would be better.
