CO2 proof tubing - 02-18-2007, 08:04 AM

Hi
i was wondering what kind of CO2 tubing you guys are using .i have read that the normal air line can leak CO2 out . but some have said the the silicon tubing is ok .i need to run a long length of tubing as my bottle is about 20 foot from my tank .do you guys think the the silicon tubing would be ok for this ? i did buy some CO2 proof tubing a while back but i was not happy with the quality of it .it was JBLs make .i know AE sell CO2 proof tubing but there longest is 5m and thats about £12:50 and i really do think that its to much to pay for some tubing

I use JBLs CO2 proof tubing, mainly cos it came with my pressurised kit and I find it fine. To be honest, I not sure that the loss would be anything that would make a difference to anything anyway.. I might be wrong on that though.

Most of us keep the CO2 tank under our aquarium, with no more than 3-4 feet of tubing involved. For that situation it doesn't make a lot of difference which type of tubing you use, as far as I can see. But, 20 feet is a lot of tubing, with a lot of surface area to lose CO2 thru. For that situation I think you need a good quality CO2 proof tubing, and definitely not silicone tubing.

Ive found slightly specialist supplies a nightmare to get hold of in the uk. About the only place Ive been able to find things is Aqua Essentials.

C02 Tubing : Aqua Essentials

Not sure if this page has anything on it that youve not already looked at, but Aqua Essentials are very very good, a little pricey on some things (especially plants), but second to none service.

not sure how good any of this tubing is .i mean theres no way to find out if it leaks loads of co2

I use a couple of CO2 tubing types: Tygon and the Clippard brand.
You need to buy 50-10ft for it to be worthwhile.

I run many tanks off of one single CO2 regulator so I have maybe 30-40ft running.

Many just use good silicone tubing for shorter distances.

I've seen a few recommendations for Tygon tubing. I looked at McMaster Carr, and they have many, many kinds of Tygon tubing.

Do you have a specific recommendation, or will the cheapest still be CO2 proof? I want to have two needle valves from a 20 pound tank, and one of the runs will be quite long, so I definitely want some good CO2-proof tubing.

Thanks,
-Tim

Aquaculture Supplies, Pond Supplies, Lake Aeration, Aquarium Supplies, Orlando, Florida. sells the Tygon, it's by far my favorite CO2 and air line tubing hands down.

I love the stuff.

Great seals, plyable etc.

We use it at the lab for a number of things.
