From where I am staying, I am able to get plenty of Laterite. I can use a fine sieve to get the unwanted out.

Before using it in my tank, should I bake the stuff first , then finally mixing it with Holland Sand to form the bottom 1/3 of my substrate? Please advise. Thanks.

I'm not sure it really helps for our tanks.
I used plain sand for years and then used this, I cannot say it did anything.
Some claimed it does, but never did the control, no laterite and see if they could produce good growth without it......
Adding it will not hurt though.

BTW, any thoughts on making a poor man's AS ? It would be great. Any idea on how to do that?
