Thank you Mr. Fish. I'm looking forward to seeing your journal. I'm just finishing up a very simple 10 gallon tank stand, just good enough to sit in the living room, but nothing worth reporting on. One idea I picked up from another forum and tried was the use of adjustable feet:

These are something I think should be on all of our stands. Trying to level a stand with shims can be a royal pain, compared to using these levelers.

I didn't spend anything on the wood for the 10 gallon tank stand, because it was all leftovers from the other stand. For the other stand it was 2 sheets of oak veneered 3/4 plywood - about $80, plus about 5 - 8 foot oak 1 x 4's and 1- 8 foot oak 1 x 6, which were about $60-70. I had scrap 3/4 plywood on hand for the top, bottom and back, so those didn't cost anything. All of that is from memory. Wood is no longer a cheap material.

Yea I've noticed, Its almost the same price just to buy one.... I guess you save money on the big tank stands... 100 gallon and up...
