Lagenandra Meeboldii (Effervescent Pearling)

Lagenandra Meeboldii pearls in an effervescent stream of bubbles. What I found most interesting is that the effervescent stream begins under high light conditions (Tek-Light 36" T5-HO x4) and disappears within seconds of the down shift in lighting (2 T5-HOs). As an experiment, I flipped the switch back (4-bulbs) and within seconds the effervescent stream reappears at a slightly different spot on the leaves. In any case, I thought that I would share.

Hi Michael,


The water column is close to O2 saturation, the higher light kicks up the photosynthesis,:) therefore the plants O2 production.:gw


Easy enough to find out try adding 1 or 2ml of 3% Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) for every 10 gallons (38 liters) of water to increase the O2 and see what happens.


My guess is that were to closely examine the area of the leaf effervescing, you would find some minor damage to the leaf.

Hmmm... I wonder though something tells me adding H2O2 would lead to pearling like crazy. In terms of the leaf, I imagine that is possible as Tiger Hillstream Loaches & Otos enjoy cleaning the leaves and might cause little rasps though nothing serious. Lagenandra Meeboldii tends to pearl very easily though it does not always pearl in effervescent stream of bubbles. In any case, I am now rather curious about the H2O2 experiment - lol - maybe some weekend when I have a little time.
