I'm starting a planted aquarium club for the residents of Birmingham and the surrounding areas. I have no clue what to do really. I know I need a website but I've never done web design. I've made some flyers and I'm going to put some up around school and the local pet stores. Any advice would be AWESOME!
Meetup: World's largest community of local Meetups, clubs and groups! - Meetup.com is a good place for starting up groups. They take care of a lot of the work involved. You do have to pay for the service, but the fee isn't much, and once the group gets started you can drop the meetup service. That is how I got a Sacramento group started.
Another easy to use website service, and a free one, is Yahoo! Groups - Join or create groups, clubs, forums & communities which we now use for our Sacramento group. This one doesn't provide the services of meetup, but you can't beat the cost, and the website is pretty good.
Creighton, our first meetings averaged about 6 in attendance, for about 6 months. Then the word started to get out and the attendance picked up. Now we are at 15-20 per meeting. Good luck!
6 is better than me sitting in my basement by myself . I'm really looking forward to giving my presentation on the basics of growing aquatic plants. Can I send you the presentation via-email and get some criticism of the presentation. Its not done yet but should be done at least a week before the meeting.
