The wool will not hurt the plant ... in your case, it might be helpful right now by providing a little safety ...

A lot of people STRONGLY advise that you not put the rockwool in your aquarium for a variety of reasons ...

One of those reasons is that often the rockwool is treated with nutrients and growth hormones, and sometime some anti-fungal solutions ... in general, foreign stuff that is relatively harmless to plants ... but when dropped into your aquarium, can often upset the balance ... and algae loves anything that upsets the balance <grin> ...

Now personally, I have left them in tanks many times over the years ... so I don't personally have a problem with it ... but just note that many people will tell you that "in general" it is safer to not use it if it is not needed ...
